Banality of Fanfiction – The Game of Thrones, Season 7 – An Incomprehensive Season Review. (Spoilers)

There is something insidious and detestable about the Fictional Medieval History, with Dragons and an entire Generation of Beings trying to, make their living, without the “Technology,” that we all are now accustomed to. Be it, the Precious – The Lord of the Rings, or an awes dropping video game like Skyrim.

George R.R. Martin’s Fantasy Series, A Song of Ice and Fire dates back to the year, in which I was born – 1996, and the Bibliophiles, picked up on this – and, it took off. Though, A Song of Ice and Fire did not gain the Degree of Popularity, that of Lord of the Rings, but it blew up amongst the Regular Media Consumers, once the Television Series debuted back in 2011.

The term “Fan Fiction” has been attested in print as early as 1939. But, the modern phenomenon of Fan Fiction, as an expression of Fandom and Fan Interaction was popularized during the 1960s, during the run of Star Trek television run. Fan Fictions have now become a more popular, and a regular term, – since the interactions on the Social Media and the Internet have now increased and have sky-rocketed.

This year, Game of Thrones, Season 7 – had a lot of things that, it had to deal with,
starting with, reviving the series after the R.R. Martin’s run the books had ended, as the Producers of the Show, had to take the show forward, followed by the limited run of episodes and the devastating leaks of the big episodes during its short run of 7 episodes. As the Material of the Books, were dealt with and finished at the End of Season 6, this left a lot of room for the Beloved Fans of the Shows and the Books, to divulge themselves into the Theories of their own. It was immediately at the end of Season 6, when the Fans had already came up with their Theories of Night King riding a Dragon as a Fan-Poster for Season 7.

Such Fan Favorite Shows, always have a difficulty to overcome; that being of, Taking the Story which already is very much Unique and different, in its own way – and then to repeat the same process. Fans are undoubtedly huge in numbers and these Huge Numbers, counts to a massive amount of Brains, and for the writers of the Show would always be under constant pressure to do or not to do – a storyline, as these storylines are mostly, if not always are explored by the Fans.

Fans this Season, were very successful as most of the Theories, and Fiction Stories that they wanted the Show-Runners to explore were explored in a very unpolished manner. The supposedly Awe-struck moment that, the Entire Season was building towards (Pun Intended), Be it the Dragon turning Blue, or the Wall Falling, bombed as bad as 2016’s North Korea’s Nuclear Tests. But what really worked successfully was the Episode 4, of the Season – which had caught everyone off-guard.

Fan Fictions always emerge when there is a cult following of any form. I once, saw myself, sitting in a room – where People were discussing, if Ravan really loved Sita, or Did he just do that to seek Ram’s attention. Fan Fictions are not always bad – the supposedly Erotic Novel, 50 Shades of Grey was a Fan Fiction of Twilight that got turned into a book and now a Trilogy of Films, well, maybe sometimes, Fan Fictions are very bad.

But when Fans get too attached to the Story of Characters, that they Love and have grown Loving – while the Show-Runners have also, became a part of the Series as the Fans. There lies a very little room for Collaborative Creativity.

Smart person is the one, who figures out When to Stop, and not the one who keeps chasing a Jaw-Dropping Moment, over than just Delivering a Good Story.
